Contractions & Cocktails: A San Antonio Birth Worker Event

San Antonio Perinatal Professionals: Contractions and Cocktails Event

Back in November 2024, I hosted my first event for local birth workers. I was personally craving community and friendship within the local birth worker community, so I put myself out there and hosted a “birth worker friendsgiving” event. Around 10 other perinatal professionals came and it was a great time. And it also really showed me that there was a need in San Antonio/New Braunfels to build community and make connections with birth workers! When we as perinatal professionals come together, it strengthens our community, which in turn benefits the families we serve. Sure, networking is great — finding back ups, referrals, and providers. But this work can be very isolating, and I’m a firm believer in community over competition.

Last week, I hosted my biggest event yet: Contractions and Cocktails. More than 22 perinatal professionals attended (plus a few little nurslings): doulas, midwives, chiropractors, massage therapists, craniosacral therapists, birth photographers, pelvic floor therapists, lactation consultants, and more were in attendance. I also encouraged everyone coming to bring a “birth-y themed” cocktail, mocktail, or food. I wasn’t sure if people would want to get creative with a theme, but everyone knocked it out of the park! The two winners to bring the best food/drink won their own handmade, ceramic placenta mugs! Pictured below are photos of a few of my favorite dishes/drinks from the night, such as Mucus Plug Marshmallows, “Maternal Side” placenta cake, “R.I.P. to Your Taco” dip, and more. This theme and competition really brought out everyone’s creative, fun side, and I’m already looking forward to hosting the next event. Although, I’m not sure how we’ll ever top this theme; we may just have to do it again to see what else we can all come up with!

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to come out! I truly believe that continuing to build up this community will benefit our hearts, businesses, and local community. We are building bridges between industries, prioritizing community over competition, fostering an abundance mindset, and filling our own cup by spending time with other birth workers who can relate to the struggles and joys of walking alongside growing families.
